i usually try to order these by "how excited was i on days new episodes released" but honestly i was extremely excited for all of them so here's just an attempt at a regular "rankings of what i liked most" order. i dont tend to hate-watch animes so even the lowest thing on this list is a very high register on the enjoyment meter

  1. gundam witch from mercury

like. yeah. this was inevitable. i dont really have much more to say than what i did in this post. i think the second half was a lot stronger than the first half

  1. oshi no ko

i'd already read the manga so there were no surprises for the story but the quality of the animation and voice acting and music was so high it felt like i was experiencing it for the first time. i don't think it's necessarily better or worse than the manga but it manages to stand successfully on its own which is a big achievement (kinda like kaguya does)

  1. skip and loafer

everyone needs to watch this. a warm blanket of a show about how it's actually good to be weird because all of your friends are weird too and have their own things going on and it's nice to just hang out with each other. im immediately reading the manga. i would die for nao-chan.

  1. tengoku daimakyo / heavenly delusion (honestly not sure why they didnt go with the localized name for the show but whatever)

this probably would've been my #2 show of the season but i think it's ending suffered a bit too much from manga-adaptation-itis. it's still an all-timer though. the second "lets see if these crazy kids make it in this fucked up world" show this season. and man....this show has got some GENDER in it. gender situations off the charts. im also immediately getting into the manga because i love the characters so much.

  1. birdie wing

it's birdie wing! i liked it. it's fun watching girls play golf extremely wrongly but i dont think this half of the season was anything special compared to the first so it's pretty low on my list cause it didnt surprise me really

  1. my love story with yamada-kun at lv999

just a pretty fun rom-com. nothing complicated. i really enjoyed watching it but im not gonna be trying to pitch this one to anyone else really tbh

Strange World Review

★★★★

it’s really weird to watch a movie that you know was deliberately buried by its studio and discover exactly why they did that. like it’s insane to me that disney even made and released a film with a message of “be gay do degrowth” but here we are.

yes it had some pacing issues, yes it had some strange missteps, but overall it fuckin worked and was a really cool world that worked in the jules verne/treasure planet/atlantis mode of sci-fi, which disney has historically excelled in and would continue to excel in if they stopped being such pussies about it.

i actually didn’t expect the twist they hit us with. i think it works. cool movie. can’t believe it got made. can’t believe disney didn’t put social media restrictions in jaboukie’s contract. life works in mysterious ways.
